Vindicated means justified. "Vindicated" is about a guy who is at conflict with what is right, and a girl's hope. "Hope dangles on a string, like slow spinning redemption" means there is hope; a chance to redeem himself. "The shine of it has caught my eye;" the opportunity to redeem has caught his interest. "So mesmerizing, so hypnotizing, I am captivated;" he is drawn to hope. The chorus, "vindicated, I am selfish …you swore, you saw yourself" shows the conflict between what is right: vindicated, and feeding hope. "So clear…your ring" refers to what the girl saw in him, and circuitously implies the girl is married or engaged; creating juxtaposition, and transition. "Cut to mirror your intention;" the ring reflects her intentions. "Oversized and overwhelmed...caught my eye;" the ring bothers him. "And rendered me, so isolated, so motivated" shows what the ring did to him. "Defense is paper…the current;" he can turn back after getting so deep. "Let me slip away" means let go of me; don't hope. The song ends with "Slight hope…like slow spinning redemption." This line brings the song full circle, and creates irony: she still has hope.
Expos, yay Lee!
