To me the song is about realizing what you want and then going for it, in this case it's a girl.
At first he's scared to tell her ("the sound was trapped deep in me") and everything and everyone is surpassing him ("the world just sped right past me"). But he gets the courage to tell her when he realizes he doesn't want to wait forever, and exposes his secret ("all this falls away to leave me naked").
It's about seizing the moment.
