From this I feel he doesn't want to wake up from his nightmares. So to me it feels like he might be saying that the nightmares maybe better than the life he is living.

I feel he is blaming someone or something for the nightmares he has. SO when he wakes up he is going to confront that and get his revenge for his nightmares. Or maybe his life choices are giving him nightmares and he is going to get revenge on life.

I feel the reason he is afraid of the life he could be living is the same reason why most people is afraid of tomorrow. It's simply because he doesn't know anything about it because it hasn't happen or it hasn't come yet.
