I really believe this is a song of acceptance, however this theme only becomes apparent as the song comes to an end, suggesting that this was not an easy journey and took time. As you grow up, things change and the stress you used to face wasn't stress at all. With age, we face new and unknown challenges that change who we are and how we appear. When we get to a stage in our lives when this becomes visible to us, we start to look back on the past with envy and even tend to romanticise it into hating our current selves. This dangerous perspective can lead to pessimism and idleness, which only makes our current situation worse. This is all due to self sabotage and the inability to accept development. Then soon will come a time when not only do you accept the advancement of life but also your own role in it. Alex produces an excellent turning point near the end of the song to provide the listener with optimism, something that the people who are relating to the song need. Overall, I think the main meaning of this song is taking control.
