I was always told that this song was written about my grandpa Marvin "Mop" Vann. He was a full blood cherokee fiddle player who played music all over the place. He lived in Oklahoma and loved to drink and play music. He always wore his hair slicked back, and a lot of people say that once he showed up for a fiddle competition he would have to sign up last because once people saw his name at the top of the list, they wouldn't sign up. He waited until the list was almost full to sign his name. Johnny Lee met my brother and told him that the name, Marvin "Mop" Vann sounded familiar. Johnny has no clue who this song was written about. A lot of people who knew my Grandpa will swear up and down that this song was written about him. In Mayes County, Oklahoma.. That is what we still believe.
