Well a couple days ago I watched on tv The jacksons: An american dream, and when mj was young he had a rat in the movie his name was mr. Rat but idk if that was the rat's actual name or not in the movie he got caught in a mouse trap, but any way I think he's singing about his rat cause in the movie he would tell the rat about what happend and the rat was his only true friend he could talk to cause mj was busy in music and didn't have people friends. He's saying that his rat is his only friend and mj is the rat's friend cause he understood that the rat wasn't a diseased thing and that mj understood that he had feelings and a beating heart even though every one thought that all rats were diseased beasts.

I think what "beat it" means is not to get in fights and do bad things like: fighting, drugs tempting children, and so on. He's trying to say that it's wrong to break the law and there is consequences to your actions so he's trying to get people to reealize that illegal things are wrong so they won't. So that ur neighborhood, you and the children will be a little safer.
