Wilhelm Wundt, who is said to have founded psychology in 1879, wanted psychological inquiry to be limited to that which is subject to direct examination.
Such an approach to something like the likes of this song, are bound to miss the very essence and very beauty of this song. You can't learn how to love somebody, or how to treasure somebody, or how to appreciate somebody, through strict scientific inquiry.
We lose those whom we take for granted, so it behooves us to pay attention to this George Jones song. When we lose those whom we love, or when we not only lose what we had, we lose what could have been.
