I agree with nonlinearedits he is leaving a woman who he has had a relationship with for a long time (please take a long hard look at your text book) which is him (cause I'm history) he is gone. (when I strap my helmit on I'll be long gone for I've been dying to leave) he has been wanting to leave for a long time. (I've had just about enough of quote diamonds in the rough) he is done with her and all of the hard times. (Or I'll cave in) he will collapse he will lose his cool and sanity. He then says (i will take my leave and I wont even look back) he is not at all worried that he made the wrong decision about her. He isn't going back no matter what. I love this song!
