I lost every iota of my hearing (along with a lot of my memory) to Meningitis, when I was ten years old (I'm 52, now), so I don't remember ever hearing George Jones sing. However, because of tinnitis (a squeaking "sound," caused by nerve damage) I have "heard" him, while watching television program, where he is singing, with close captioning.
When he sang, "Oh, Come Angel Band," with Vestal Goodman, I felt as if I could hear a low bass voice and a booming lady's voice. Whether or not that was right, I don't care - I liked the song and thought it "sounded" well - at least to someone, who has heard nothing for 42 years.
