The obvious meaning to this is layed out in both the opening and the ending of the video; his struggle with being faithful to his lover. The more subtle meaning is humanity's ongoing struggle with facing and dealing with our own shortcomings. "I'm not looking for a second chance, I'm sreaming at the top of my voice..." Intense, powerful lyrics depicting our need for forgiveness. "...Said he'd seen my enemy, said he looked just like me..." Very insightful lyrics; most of the time the struggle that gets the better of us is one of our own making. Addictions are a prime example. Infidelity is another, and there are many more, with the point being, we can be on the top of the world and then tear it down with our own two hands. We can be our own worst enemy. The bible tells us the heart is extremely deceitful. It also says the tongue is the most powerful muscle, able to praise one minute and curse the next. In my opinion, James Blunt has written one of the most powerful, truthful songs of this millenium. It's also a fun song to play on the mandolin.
