If you read the book "I heart you, you haunt me" by Lisa Schroeder, it brings a whole new understanding to this song. In the story this girl looses her boyfriend who had made a promise to always stay with her and he ends up being a ghost, and he plays this song during the book. Very good song though, I really like evanescence, and especially amy lee, she's so amazing.

I think this song means (and I know I may not be right, since I didn't actually write the song) that a lot of good changes has come to this person in a way that all there failures (vainness), and all there mistakes have started to go away, because they have learned to forgive themselves, and forget. And because of that they are no longer ashamed to be the person they are right now. And I think when it says "now that we're here, it's so far away" that now they are so far from where they once were, and they're surprised of that. But ya, that's what I think this song means.

I think this song is telling everybody that no matter who you are, or what you've done, you are not forgotten in the Lord, he hears everybody's prayers, everybody's plea for help. And I know that somehow, someway, somehow, he'll answer it. And sometimes, the reason why some prayers aren't answered right then, is cause it's not the right time. Sometimes they come later, when the time is right for them to be. But know no matter what, they will be answered and also sometimes they may not be answered the way you'd like them too, sometimes they get answered in a totally different way. You just have to keep believing like this song says, you have to keep on having faith. No matter what.

The meaning to this song is pretty simple to figure out I think. The person talking has a broken heart that needs a fixing and he's asking Jesus our Savior, our Redeemer, to heal it. Cause really, he's the only one that can, with his love, his love for everyone on this planet, no matter what you've done, he'll always be there for you and he will heal any heart that is broken if you just ask and believe and know that he will -- have faith. And basicly that is what this song is trying to tell you.

For me, the beginning of the song, it reminds me of how my mom died. A few days back before she died, she was able to still talk to me. And a lot when I was little I'd ask her lots of questions, and now I regret not asking her some things. But when she did get bad, they had a hospital bed put in, and it scared me so bad I stayed away as much as I could. And then the night she died she went into a coma and then about an hour later she died. But ya, you can probably see just looking at all the rest of the lyrics that it tells the story. But this song means a lot to me. She's been gone for almost 2 years. It helps me not to forget all she told me, all of the love she had for me and my family and that one day i'll get to hug her once again and tell her that I love her.

My theory on this song is that the writter is depressed or has watched somebody be depressed and has pushed everybody out of there lives and is appoligizing for pushing all that he loves away and destroying all of his dreams cause he thinks that he can't follow them, and to hide all of the numbness and destruction he feels inside, he hides it with a mask so nobody can see it. Only he feels it, and he regrets it, and he's sorry.
