I was intrigued on seeing the title As I leave behind Néidín on a CD by Mary Black, 'Without the Fanfare'. I do research on names and I wondered if this name followed the recent wide adoption of Irish names by many parents. Maybe, I thought, it's an Irish Gaelic form of Nadine, a name not unfamiliar to people of Scottish background. I don't know but I did find out that Neidin is a place name in southwestern Ireland. In that case the song may be saying adieu to a childhood home in Neidin, and not necessarily to a lover named Neidin.
