I think the song is talking about a loved one who has an addiction, and even though they are not able to be "present" mind, body and sole for her, she has given them all of her. She says she tried so hard to tell herself that they were gone, but though they are still with her, she has been alone. I think she is saying that the addict has taken over and the person she once loved and still loved was no longer there. The face that once had a resonating light now haunts her dreams because that person no longer exists.
