This whole song is about Scout Compton. He was 15 and Heart broken because she cheated on him while he was on tour. He was heartbroken and he said in this interview "Writing songs was all I knew on how to deal with my emotions" (I'm paraphrasing) The title "The Mortician's Daughter" came from Scout's father's occupation (he's a mortician)
I hope that you find my meaning helpful.
Everybody wants to have recognition that there is something there spiritually, so we're constantly looking for something spiritually that fits our morals.
