This song is a conversation with God. Think prayer/modern day Psalm. He is a Christ follower. He already knows that Christ is the truth, life and the way, but he's struggling with something and giving this hurt/pain/struggle to over to God - He is not talking about "religion! Christianity is NOT religion! It is the polar opposite! Christianity does not = "do more, try harder, be better". Following Christ is saying "i accept this gift of grace. Thank you for loving unconditionally. I know I'm going to screw up and yet you will never let go. Agape love."
