Billy Joe Shaver holds onto his Christian beliefs of eternal life though his fast lifestyle caused him to stumble many times. His songs will live on as well after he is gone which keeps him alive in a sense of the lessons he learned and then passed along in lyrics. He did not raise his son due to being a road musician but connected later when his son Eddie was grown. Eddie had become an accomplished guitarist and joined up with Billy Joe creating some powerful performances. Shaver's ex-wife passed away then Eddie died of an overdose. Billy Joe one day stood at their graves and was so overwhelmed with grief he thought he was going to lose his sanity. He came back around and returned to doing what he does best-singing, writing and being a Texan. He will live forever. A duet with his son can tell you more, it is called "Blood Is Thicker Than Water" and it pulls no punches.
