Never wonder who's pulling strings above me
In the music industry, there is always someone controlling what you are doing. Many celebrity's are puppets to the music industry. This is what Alanis is trying to say. By telling people this, she is not conforming to the norm of being told what to say as she is criticizing the music industry.

Meaning
This song mocks the celebrity life and being in the spotlight. Celebrity in this song is shown as something to be given and obtained, not earnt. The effect this gives is that many celebrity's now are only famouse for their looks or for using auto tune, not for actual talent. The last verse shows that being a celebrity is also about being thin and healthy, not who you actually are.

Meaning
The song is abou loosing someone close to you, and dealing with it. The song explores ideas about what will be missed after death and what that person has taught you. The song also tells a chronological order of dealing with the death of a friend: first unsure and confuse when the person is dying "can anybody tell me why", then the final moments "they're telling me the time has come", then after the death and the pain it causes "How can I survive" then finally appreciating and remembering what they have done and the impact on your life "you showed me all the good".
