I think this song is about how people are trying to rely on things other than themselves like Gods so help them with the issues they have. They need to learn that they are the ones who have to save themselves. I don't necessarily think it means things like God doesn't exist because I'm a Christian. I just think it means that you can't sit there and think that someone is going to save you. You need to save yourself. Then you can get some help from people as well.
