I take this song is about homosexual young people potentially being driven to suicide by a hostile society. There are two protagonists; the first an un-named woman struggling to express her desire for another woman, but, with help, finding what she needs - the "Ruby Fruit Jungle" mentioned here is Rita Mae Brown's iconic 1973 novel; a strongly autobiographical lesbian coming-of-age story. The second character, a "wig wearing boy named Al", seems to be alone in his room, perhaps hiding in shame. He needs tyo hear that "Queer sex is great"! The Donna who comments "It depends where you're at in your head" may well be Donna Dresch? The final message of the song; "Don't kill yourself because people can't deal with your brilliance", coming from the narrator who has apparently considered suicide herself at some point in the past. This song is magnificent, I wish that every young homosexual could hear it, to know that they are not alone and have the potential to live a wonderful life. After all, queer sex is indeed the best sex you can have!
