I guess the remaining members of Pink Floyd wrote this in honour and love for a dear friend. But when you find out that Syd Barrett was slowly ousted from the band when his behaviour became more erratic and unmanagable you have to ask yourself why urge an ex-member to 'shine on' after you have got rid of him. He was with Pink Floyd at the beginning and was majorly responsible for the development of the Pink Floyd sound. Okay the bands sound needed to mature and perhaps Syd was either or was against it or didn't want it. But, they could have managed his fragile state in another way. And, come on if you were a bit loose in the head department would you want your ex-band mates writing a massive hit about it and telling the world your 'crazy'. Maybe he would have just wanted to go back home walk into a local pub and chat up a ladyfriend. But they scuppered those plans didn't they.
