I bet the guy must have felt so lonely even though the girl was with him for him at times. I bet all he ever did was breathe for her and when things got so shitty, he decided to throw his life away. And upon realizing everything he really was and is, and that is to live for her, he faces death to go back to her. The tone used in the song is one of great regret and anger which is fueled by the want to make the girl stay so much because he needs her more than anything he ever had. =)
