When you start nearing the end of your life you sometimes wonder what have you set an example for what have you done good and what have you done bad, so when you do die tell your loved ones to remember all the good things, tell them things that you have done so they can remember you for them and don't resent me meaning you don't have to protect my image don't ruin your life because a loved one died, and if you ever do miss them or if your feeling down remember those things, nothing more, leave out all the rest.

This is definetally stating the fact that everyone is afraid of their own shadow and sometimes you just have to have to forget that people judge you and you have to do your thing, at the beginning hes referring how people tell you to do things and how you don't want people to think you've changed, but in the chorus the perspective changes saying don't listen to those people be your self.
