Wings – Jet

Meaning
It's a great rock song about people who look funny and are sad when Jet tells them she will marry soon. The news about the up coming marriage creates a feeling of great loneliness. The narrator questions how brave or bold her father might be, compared to a sergeant major. He also questions and why Jet's father said she was too young to marry. The beat of the song is dramatic and it matches the question, do you want Jet to always love me? which could be interpreted like do you want Jet to marry the narrator. The answer "much later" points again to a struggle about a marriage that has people for and against it. The narrator asks a long haired girl, possibly Jet, to take a ride with him, or fly with him. There's a link between the father, a sergeant major or major and a lady suffragette. The lyrics suggest the father would be against the marriage now (or just yet) and the major, lady suffragette and probably even Jet, as having the right to vote against the father's idea. So at the end, the narrator would be saying to Jet "I thought you had the right to vote" meaning she'd have the right to decide about the marriage.
