The beat of the song is dramatic and it matches the question, do you want Jet to always love me? which could be interpreted like do you want Jet to marry the narrator. The answer "much later" points again to a struggle about a marriage that has people for and against it. The narrator asks a long haired girl, possibly Jet, to take a ride with him, or fly with him. There's a link between the father, a sergeant major or major and a lady suffragette.
