The Double A or "AA" train was an Independent Subway System of New York service. It ran from 1967–1979. You can find reference to it under "K Eight Avenue Local" in Wikipedia. Strap hanging is simply commuting by standing on the train, holding on the, usually, leather straps that hang from the ceiling.
