i think this song is about two friends or lovers that are both in bad situations but one (the singer) is more mentally stable then the the singers subject. the singer wants the subject to stay with them forever so they can help eachother out. The mentally stable one is there for the subject when the subject is having a mental breakdown, and so the subject will come to the singer or mentally stable one to settle down. Sometimes the subject believes everything is getting better and tries not to rely on the singer as much, but the singer is like "hey, dont leave me you're blind to the situation right now, everything isn't okay" and so they settle down together because they both know that at the end of the day nothing is going to get better with their current situations. They only have themselves to rely on and confide in, and the singer is scared to be alone deep down.
