I believe the origin of this song came from the making of the movie Singles. Interesting story, in the movie the band had a cassette tape they were promoting. As a movie prop there were names of songs written on the cassette tape. They weren't actual songs. Chris Cornell took this cassette tape home and within a couple hours recorded songs for each of the names written on the cassette tape. He brought the tape back to the movie set and waited for someone to discover the music. A couple of the songs (including Spoonman) were placed on future albums. They later came across a man who played spoons as an instrument and included him into the song.

Soundgarden Fresh Tendrils- Superunknown to me speaks of the power of the quest for fame, the feelings of hating who you can become and disposing of the person it can change you into. Its interesting the song was written around the time when the "Seattle Sound" started to explode. Chris Cornell is a fascinating personality that I love seeing interviews about. He is a complicated, intelligent mind that appeared to be well grounded. I wish I had this interest in his lyrics back when I first discovered them in the early 90s. I'm a long time Soundgarden fan who is rediscovering the band after 25+ years. I would love to hear what you think about this song.
