I agree with what blue and yellow pasted, but I think the paradox isn't about waiting to be hurt, I feel it's more likely to be craig saying love itself is a paradox. In other words, craig believes that you can never truly love someone, as you will always be trying to be what they want you to be, thus meaning you aren't yourself, and therefore you can never be loved for who you truly are. In the very least the love in this song was paradoxical, that's not to claim that all love is a paradox.
