I truly believe that this song is about the coming of age of adolescents. It is about a young man who is trying to find himself, and his father is there to help and explain life to him, but the son is being difficult. Now the boy wants to break free of it all, and has to go away and create his own life now, for he is old enough to do so. I think it also has to do with parents letting go, because at some point or another they have to.
