Bradlee Kuhn oh absolutely, I entirely agree. I totally understand the business aspect of it and what's considered "smart marketing" in the secular market, but at the end of the day, I believe it's a matter of pleasing men or pleasing Christ (Galatians 1: 10). And yes they may speak of Christ during a live show here and there (I've seen them at festivals numerous times since their first album released in '96), but how many people is that verses the number of people that will buy their albums and never see them live to hear about Christ. I'll just say "they've come a long way" from songs like "Rest", "You're Powerful", "Gasoline", etc. Not to mention their 2000 worship album which was incredible. Don't get me wrong, I think they are an amazing band with an amazing stage show and some really positive and hopeful songs that hit a lot of sensitive areas that people are struggling with. But positivity and hope in oneself are not the Gospel. The Gospel brings positivity and hope to oneself that is found in Christ alone. I think it will be a sad day when many "Christian" bands will stand before the throne of God, after being given such a huge pedestal in this life, and try to impress him with their amount of album sales vs what they've done with the Gospel. Again, I think Skillet, Red, tfk, all these bands are amazing. But I'm afraid they are doing a lot of people a huge disservice by not pointing people to the Gospel more clearly in what they write/sing (not necessarily what they talk about in between songs at a live show).
