I am forty years old have spent most of my life being told that men are biologically superior. Men earn more, are more likely to be offered jobs in senior management, without being asked who they slept with to get the job and are considered the "head of the household". This song may not be the height of lyrical mastery but does make a very valid point, although I am unsure as to the reference to damaged footwear; wondering if she's actually saying we would achieve more if we concentrated less on looking pretty/s*** and more on achieving? Or maybe not, just a thought. I agree that she is on dangerous and rather hypocritical ground if she's suggesting women are biologically superior; but having grown up in the 80's when rape victims asked for it, unmarried mums were thick s***s who wanted a council flat and clever was not s*** I'm willing to let that one slide.

I think this song is about child abuse. The references to him "doing what he was told" and being awake at night suggest he was scared. No-one listening to a word he said and his being a "silly boy" sounds to me like the boy in this song tried to ask for help and wasn't taken seriously. Even as a youngster, I found the final verse really chilling; obviously something very sinister happened to Jimmy and was hushed up. I think Jimmy died at the hands of his carers and the matter was swept under the carpet.
