For me, this song is talking about how he lost the love of his life, yet they still have these complex feelings and he's desperately trying to understand where those feelings have gone, and why they aren't together. He's trying to get her to understand that he needs her and loves her and to go back to the magical love they had. Because love is simple, but when you break up everything gets complex and hard, especially when you know they're the one.
