This song proves Edward's selfless love to Bella. He's looking at the big picture. Bella's life is the most important thing and he does not want to steal it away from her. He wants bella to appreciate life and happiness the way it's suppose to be. In twilight he said "everything about me invites you in". I believe he broke up with her so he would also know if her love is trully unconditional.
