My guess would be--as every other post here is pure conjecture--that the molestation was of a psychological nature, and it has nothing to do with priests, the catholic church, etc. All of that is a horror unto itself, sure enough. But we obsess to distraction from other matters just as important. Psychological and emotional abuse by the "priests" of the household, if you will, is just as horrible as a swift backhand or a fist, and in some cases more damaging. Sometimes for a lifetime. Recovery takes longer than that. Some people don't have that long, so they do the best they can. Give them their due, people.
