It sound like the wall flower (a shy person/loner) was protecting his crush and got shot for it. "And as you shut the door...I put my eyes back on the floor." he's already shot by the start of the song. If not he's shot by the time the line "You know that siren's getting louder" and he is obviously being comforted by his crush at the end of that same verse.
