Marley's lyrics have a lot of references to the Bible ~ but with an unusual interpretation! He sees indigenous peoples as similar to the Israelites, who were slaves & then exiles wandering in the desert. The Lord fed them manna, a kind of bread, in the desert. "In desolate places we'll find our bread." Freeing the people "with music" is a reference, elaborated in other of Marley's songs, to the victory of the Israelites over the walled city of Jericho ~ obeying the Lord, all they had to do was march around the city playing music praising God. It makes the oppressors feel superior ("strong") to call the others "weak". Feeling proud by putting others down "goeth before a fall." The oppressors (whom Marley calls "Babylon") must eventually fall (or "repay").
