I'm not overly familiar with thrice but this is one of the favourite songs I listen to. So if you don't agree with my opinion that's probably why. It's as if the writer is speaking of the useless goals of writing music and promoting media. They are extremely wealthy and well recognized. These lyrics describe a life threatening situation that is over come by the unsung hero's, in this case first responders and paramedics, "my world goes black before i feel an angel lift me up and i open blood shot eyes". This person has been having a big change in heart for quite some time now encouraging people to take a harder path in life to be left with a greater sence of self graditude and achivment. "Now I lay here owing my life to a stranger And I realize that Empty words are not enough I'm left here with the question of just What have I to show except the promises I never kept? ",the lines presented here exclaim this interpretation well.the writer proceeds on with words that describe determination for reedeming the wasted time,pushing past the the negitive attiutdes of others but respecting their decisions for they have not been taught otherwise,"Look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares It gets me down but I'm still gonna try to do what's right".Achually the writer is very displeased over what they've become as an artist of words "Rhetoric can't raise the dead I'm sick of always talking when there's no change", feeling redicouluse compared to someone posessing knowledge to save lives. I felt a sence of feeling towards living life to the fullest, witch is true but not throughout. I found this an easy song to understand and maybe to easy if anyone has a deeper interpretation I'd be glad to read your opionion.

Ok so. How about the idea that the girl is a bit younger than him, a singer, crazy and intoxicated with the idea of being in a relationship("young love pleases you easy, makes you sick in a bad way"). Almost as if she was one step behind through out (stones and roses, "she would tell me a secret i would loose it the next day"). "kickings for my sweetheart,bruises that i just dont miss" I'm pritty sure shes putting out to him and he can't resist and in turn leading her on. However at the end the girl figures out that hes not looking for a relationship with her and gives up. Ya I'm bored, so what.
