I agree that his relationship is hard enough without outside forces bearing down-family, money, kids, other women, the media but keeping it all together is the hardest part. Getting through infidelity when you really care for the person you cheated on for one (its like moving a mountain) basically he's trying to be a better man and he needs her to understand the hardship is ahead otherwise he's back at square one.
