Goanna – Solid Rock lyrics
Out here nothin' changes
Not in a hurry anyway
You can feel the endlessness
With the comin' of the light 'o day

You're talkin' bout a chosen place
You wanna sell it in a marketplace

Well
Well just a minute now

You're standin' on
Solid rock

Standin' on sacred ground
Livin' on borrowed time
And the winds of change
Are blowin' down the line

Right down the line

Well round about the dawn of time
The Dreaming all began
A crowd of people came
Well they were lookin' for their promised land

We're runnin' from the heart of darkness
Searchin' for the heart of light
It was their paradise

Well they were standin' on
Solid rock
Standin' on sacred ground
Livin' on borrowed time

And the winds of change
Were blowin' cold that night

Well they were standin' on the shore one day
Saw the white sails in the sun

Wasn't long before they felt the sting
White man, white law, white gun

Don't tell me that it's justified
Cause somewhere
Someone lied
Yeah, well someone lied
Someone lied
Genocide
Well someone lied

And now you're standin' on
Solid rock
Standin' on sacred ground
Livin' on borrowed time
And the winds of change
Are blowin' down the line

Solid rock
Standin' on sacred ground
Livin' on borrowed time
And the winds of change
Are blowin' down the line

Solid rock
Standin' on sacred ground
Livin' on borrowed time
And the winds of change
Are blowin' down the line
No

This song in simplicity tells the story of the rape and pillage of the lands of the anangu people. But then goes into the details and tells a complex story of pre- invasion and the peaceful lives of the aboriginal people, the invasion itself how the english were leaving a place that was 'heart of darkness' for a promised land australia what they did when they got here. (someone lied I think refers to terra nullius) this was used to justify the genocide of aboriginal peoples. And fundamentally reminds me that every grain of sand on this huge island is sacred ground. I have loved this song since it first came out, and I knew what it meant back then. Of course it means much more to me now.

This song is about how the white British people had came and took over the aboriginals' special land which is referring to Uluru which had meant so much to them and how that they were living in a peaceful life until the white people had come. This song was such a sad song. I mean if I were the aboriginal people, I would feel betrayed and sad that we had lost our land because of those mean and selfish white men. When I heard the word 'Genocide', I felt sorrow for the aboriginals because the white men had come over and kill many of them. This song means a lot.

I think this song title should be put up on billboards so everyone can see that goanna is a cool name for a band. I thought this song was strangely creepy in the way that it resembled an elephant. You know what I mean, I'm sure. Anyway, this song isn't as popular as it should be cos everyone needs to know that elephants are amazing and so are human rights, anyway. I need to go now. Byeeeeee llama carrot puke onion lemon juice banana girl sun yellow grudge rudolph like out now gun fart bum queen desk chair rain dance scream pineapple oink moo cow dog fish red blue yellow pink elephant things that fall from the sky in a ball of flame. Red and purple rain that is actually acid so be careful otherwise you might burn to death. Don't eat onions while ice skating because it's a safety hazard to the queen. I don't like eating meat on tuesdays. La loopsy. Dogs need to be fed regularly otherwise they will die. The sun will come up tomorrow something. Ok I got awesome. Bye.
