To me, this is a story of a tender, fleeting love. At first, it's beautiful, meant to be.
They were both completely engulfed in each other's waves. But things can change abruptly for so many reasons, and a lot of the time we're left asking "what happened?".

To me, this is what is reflected by the sudden change from "I want to ride these waves 'till infinity's dawn" to "I can go now if you want me gone". Or, maybe the writer knows they fucked up somewhere, somehow, and are so guilty about it that they accept that their significant other wont want to ever see them again. So bad that they are willing to leave the state if it means not bothering them anymore. Or maybe the other person just stopped reciprocating the love that the writer had for them.

Some people can do a 180 and simply ghost the other person, maybe because they don't know what they want and because they don't have the emotional responsibility to communicate that to the other person.

Either way, a beautiful and tragic situation, especially for introverted people who don't find love too often. I'm in love with the image of being in a calm beach with the person you love... seeing them happy, in the waves, even if it's just for that ephemeral moment. I really miss him...
