Alec Benjamin – The Water Fountain lyrics
She told me that she loved me by the water fountain
She told me that she loved me and she didn't love him
And that was really lovely because it was innocent
But now she's got a cup with something else in it
It's getting kind of blurry at a quarter past ten

And he was in a hurry to be touching her skin
She's feeling kind of dirty when she's dancing with him
Forgetting what she told me by the water fountain

Now he's grabbing her hips, and pulling her in
Kissing her lips, and whispering in her ear
And she knows that she shouldn't listen
And that she should be with me by the water fountain
She couldn't be at home at the night time because
It made her feel alone, but at that time she was too young

I was too young

I should've built a home with a fountain for us
The moment that she told me that she was in love

Too young
I was too young
(Too young)
(Too young)
(Too young)

And if she ever goes back to the water fountain
The handle will be broken and the rust set in

But my hand, it will be open and I'll try to fix it
My heart, it will be open and I'll try to give it

Now I'm grabbing her hips, and pulling her in
Kissing her lips, and whispering in her ear
And I know that it's only a wish
And that we're not standing by the water fountain

(Too young)
(Too young)
(Too young)

She couldn't be at home at the night time
Because it made her feel alone
But at that time she was too young
I was too young

I should've built a home with a fountain for us
The moment that she told me that she was in love
Too young
I was too young
(Too young)
(Too young)
(Too young)

[Ellision]
(Too young)
(Too young)
(Too young)
(Too young)
I should've built a home with a fountain for us
The moment that she told me that she was in love
Too young
I was too young

I've got a slightly different take on this. To me its a song of trusting too much in innocent promises and not seizing the moment but perhaps also. Not being quite ready for the moment. Singer is obviously in love with a girl but there is competition for her affection. She reciprocates that promise of love in innocence and the singer thinks this is sufficient and he has won over her over his love rival. However during some night when alcohol is involved her resolve changes and she transfers her affections to his love rival drawn by more adult desires. And then its over, gone, she will never come back. Singer laments this, wishing they could go back to those innocent times, but they never can. He considers whether he should have been more assertive that time at the water fountain that he should have seized the moment and built the relationship from there. But its too late now, moment has gone and he was just too innocent, too trusting to realise that sometimes you need to make these things happen rather than hope they evolve naturally/slowly (and maybe also some clarity the singer realises that may not have worked anyway he was just too young, too innocent).

I believe the song means that, at a younger age this girl confessed that he loved him and he was like, "okay" not really taking it in or caring because he didn't like her at the time because they were too young, but now he likes her and she is ovr him dancing with another man and being with another man. He wishes that he would have cared and his arms are wide open now.

Tbh I think that this song is about someone who is confessing to someone else and he's like "oh cool" and like I guess he doesn't reciprocate. He was probably thinking that like it was meant to be an innocent confession. I don't know where it goes from there really, I think he's just saying that she made a bad choice and she got like date raped or something, because of the lyrics of like "now she's got a cup with something else in it" and "It's getting kind of blurry" and then idk some guy rapes her and I think she dies. I feel like when he says "I know that it's only a wish" because he was too late to save her and like if he just felt that way about her maybe she wouldn't have died. Idk maybe I'm just being extreme.

I think this song means that the singer liked this girl but she didnt like him back or she just didnt care so she went with this other man and was danceing with him even tho she felt dirty, also he felt like he needed to do something about it but he was to young to do it so it he just thought about everthing that happend at the water fountain.

I for one think this song talks about a previous relationship between the singer and the girl, but the singer was too scared to do anything with the relationship, which was what the "I was too young" refers too. The singer either cuts off the relationship, or the two grow apart, or the relationship just doesn't happen, and the girl instead falls for the other man, and now the singer regrets being too afraid.
    Put a bit more coherently:
When they were young (middle school maybe?), the girl confesses her feeling for the singer, who feels that the two are too young for a relationship, and shies away from it. The girl then falls for another man, and the singer regrets not taking his chance when he had it

This song is about a girl who told the guy she loved him. Since he was too immature and young, he didn't know if he reciprocated that feeling. The girl was in a relationship at the time which, is brought up in the lyric, "She told me that she loved me and she didn't love him." The girl is "Now she's got a cup with something else in it" and "It's getting kind of blurry." Indicate that this girl is intoxicated. The lyrics proceed with, "And he was in a hurry to be touching her skin" and "Now he's grabbing her hips, and pulling her in kissing her lips, and whispering in her ear." The girl is drunk and therefore not able to consent. He regrets his actions and his immaturity that night.
