" = you're on drugs! "candy rats, chocolate bats... " = um creepy but you're still on drugs! "ride the candy train to town... " = go out in public on drugs! "cherry ribbons stream across the sky into the ground... " = O. O I'm not seeing blood, I'm just on drugs! "turn around, it astounds! It's a dancing candy tree... " = ok I've had too many drugs. "in the candy cave imagination runs so free so now charlie, please will you go into the cave? " = peer pressure ftw!

My interpretation of Charlie the Unicorn is that it's a roleplay between Charlie the jaded teenager, a small kid, and Charlie's older brother who can sing. The song sounds like something out of a cutesy kids' show, and perhaps most of it is in a kids's show in-universe. There are only two things that probably aren't. "Candy rats and chocolate bats", which big bro probably substituted for the original line just to be slightly creepy, and "Charlie please will you go into the cave", which is some good old-fashioned railroading.
