Gowan – Guns And God lyrics
Take a look at the million crosses
Planted in the field
Take a look at the streets around you
And tell me what's the deal
For so many there's a battle raging on
And they'll never rest in peace until it's won

Guns and God are forever
Guns and God
Just remember
You're never gonna know the world without 'em
Guns and God, oh yeah

Raise you fist and salute your forces
And crush your enemy
Make 'em pay for the pain you've suffered
For all the hurt you've seen
They deserve to be escorted straight to hell
So feel justified and know that you've done well

Guns and God are forever
Guns and God
Just remember
You're never gonna know the world without 'em
Guns and God, oh yeah

The bell tolls for the fallen hero
Lying on the ground
Night falls and the skys all light up
Better pray you'll not go down
Is it to late to turn this thing around?

Guns and God are forever
Guns and God
Just remember
You're never gonna know the world without 'em
Guns and God, oh yeah

This is a song that could go either way, either pro-gun or anti-gun. But I believe the point of the song was to illustrate the great loss of life because of the fury and angst of the people behind the guns - not the firearms themselves. Man manufactures weapons in general for war and retaliation, so the fury isn't held by the weapons but rather the persons wielding them. Lawrence Gowan points out the humane aspects of violence by saying, "Is it too late to turn this thing around?" This also can go either way, either ramping up to overcome the enemy or backing down due to the senseless slaughter of young lives. I love this song because it really makes you think of every possible angle. There's good and bad to everything, and we're here to decipher the good from the bad. Some people have the ability to do that while others don't. And sometimes others won't.
