What?! First of all, if someone is in the military, how in the hell are they going to "DO" A school shooting? They're freaking adults! Secondly, the song speaks to soldiers on a level that most people can't even begin to try to understand because they've never been in a situation that dictates making the choice between taking a life or allowing your own to be taken. Clearly, the lines "you can all hide behind your desks now" and "you can cry 'teacher come help me'" describe the common mentality of soldiers that civilians can sleep in peace in their sheltered world because they are on the frontlines keeping the wolves at bay. It doesn't promote school violence, it doesn't promote "using violence to get what they want". It is simply an homage to the thousands that get so little thanks for doing the terrible job that no one else wants.

This song is about the military. That is fairly obvious to any one who cares to listen. If you take the line "bang, bang, it hammers in my head! " something is repeating inside of his head. The few lines before this it seems justified to take the life of another so 10 more can live. This asks the question, is it right to kill regardless of the situation? This brings to light, what the military is doing in any given war.

I think he is saying the American Army is Corrupt in the sense that we brain wash our army to make them believe that what they are doing is ethical and there is nothing wrong with what they are doing for example the lyric "Stay the course Reasonable force i believe i serve the great the good. enemies are crushed nothing left where a man once stood" and "Voices screaming lets go im just doing what im told" and the Video furthers my point that if you don't do what your told your dead.

How can this song be about school shootings. "camo, risk my life, serve the greater good, take a life so others may live"? I don't see how that's anywhere close. In my opinion I agree with what otiz lantz said bout the desk and teacher lines. When I hear those lines I think of all my friends who stayed at home goin to college while I joined the us Army to serve as no doubt a infantryman. This song is clearly about soldiers and The Offsprings earned like a million F in cool points for making it.

Lead guitarist Kevin 'Noodles' Wasserman elaborated on this, stating that the initial lyrics are from the perspective of a soldier who believes that everything he does is for the greater good - "take a life that others may live". He is affected by a huge force (Hammerhead - "it hammers in my head") in his mind that makes him deluded.[5] The true nature of the song - that the narrator is actually a school shooter - is only revealed towards the end.

I feel the meaning to the words are pretty serious. The soldiers(teachers) are protecting us(children) from harm. We should be happy that they lay their lives down to keep us safe, no matter what they need to do. The reprecutions they suffer for us is deadly, and as far as Columbine goes, are you serious? I feel the band is making us aware of reality of the feelings of the soldiers. My support goes out to them.
