The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid lyrics
Show me how to lie
You're getting better all the time

And turning all against the one
Is an art that's hard to teach
Another clever word
Sets off an unsuspecting herd
And as you step back into line
A mob jumps to their feet

Now dance, fucker, dance
Man, he never had a chance
And no one even knew
It was really only you

And now you steal away
Take him out today
Nice work you did
You're gonna go far, kid

With a thousand lies
And a good disguise
Hit 'em right between the eyes
Hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away
Nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes
See 'em running for their lives

Slowly out of line
And drifting closer in your sights
So play it out I'm wide awake
It's a scene about me
There's something in your way
And now someone is gonna pay
And if you can't get what you want
Well it's all because of me

Now dance, fucker, dance
Man, I never had a chance
And no one even knew
It was really only you

And now you'll lead the way
Show the light of day
Nice work you did
You're gonna go far, kid
Trust, deceived!

With a thousand lies
And a good disguise
Hit 'em right between the eyes
Hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away
Nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes
See 'em running for their lives

Now dance, fucker, dance
He never had a chance
And no one even knew
It was really only you

So dance, fucker, dance
I never had a chance
It was really only you

With a thousand lies
And a good disguise
Hit 'em right between the eyes
Hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away
Nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes
See 'em running for their lives

Clever alibis
Lord of the flies
Hit 'em right between the eyes
Hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away
Nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes
See 'em running for their lives

I just finished reading the book, and after listening to this song, I was blown away by all of the connections, for example:
the first stanza is about Jack turning everybody againt Ralph, because you could refer to the tribe as a herd or a mob, and after awhile they were all against Ralph and the littluns.
    "Now you lead the way,
show the light of day. "
This refers to Ralph waiting for the night to end, because he thinks Samneric wouldn't say these things in the daytime.
    The connections are almost haunting!

I think its about a kid whos been taught that to succeed he needs to manipulate people. And then hes looking back on it and hes disgusted with himself and what he's done. "teach me how to lie" "your getting better all the time" I feel like its a kid talking to his dad. He wants to be like daddy as every lil boy does. And his dad encourages him and teaches him deceit. The boys to young to understand what it all means. His dad would say "nice work you did, your gonna go far kid." and so the poor child grows up under these terrible morals and as an adult he realizes he never had a chance at success or true happiness and probably not even love because he was taught to deceive to get what he wants. Hes angry at what hes become and angry at his dad for raising him how he did. And now the kid has no one to help him fix it. Its too late. Or atleast that's how he feels in this song. This song is sarcastic and spiteful recalling memories and actions and seeing them from another perspective. Its really quite depressing. To feel like your life is a mess and that you were cheated out of every ounce of compassion before you were able to choose for yourself. That's awful.

Truthfully, I feel as though The song itself really doesn't have to do with lord of the flies. I'm going off the video. The poor dude in the beginning seems like a farmhand or slave of sorts until gifted his "Savior" He ends up using to earn money, however he ends up using it to manipulate people, thus after he becomes rich and wealthy he meets his fate and is sentenced to a purgatory maybe? (This is off topic but I honestly feel bad for this dude, one big mistake makes him end up in God knows where.).

Uh.... Well, I know this song because of "My Little Pony" XD but I love the song, and I think someone is taking a littler child "under their wing" and teaches them everything they know about everything. Then as the child gets older, his/her tactics he/she were told are now olden style. So she/he is getting upset, and not just"okay, let's move on". I think "hit em' right between they eyes" means shoot yourself in the fore head. I think the kid gets so upset to where she/he... Ya I'm not gonna say the word because I don't know the rules of this website, and I don't want to interfere with anything. But anyways, the child moves on (to another life) and he/she doesn't trust anypon - er, anyBODY. and he becomes a bad person involved in many things that could harm you or other people. (Mostly I want to type until I get a full bar because I want to know what happens /:)

I think its about a great person's son, as said in the title. Maybe the parent wanted the kid to be great too, but the child became corrupted and took on a new mentor, but this person was evil, and now, maybe the great person is a president, and he has all those important people, the kid is strking at all those important people, but then turns on the new mentor. Wow. I surprise myself sometimes.

Okay, guys, I seriously doubt it's specifically about lord of the flies. The concept of someone lying and manipulating the people around them applies to so many things. The fact that lord of the flies is so old the copyright has likely been renewed, makes it an easily identified example. As for the meaning, well, there you have it. It's about someone who constantly lies and deceives, and uses those tactics to get what they desire. The person singing in the song even states that at one point the subject did it to him.

Wow, I really do see the connetion between this song and Lord Of The Flies! (Great book, by the way) I really like how sockpuppet872 broke it down, too! You pointed some great key points there! It makes a ton of sense!
Also, when he says "See 'em running for their lives" I think he's referring to the ending, when Jack and his tribe are hunting Ralph and really do plan to kill him and put his head on a stick like they did with the sow. By then, Ralph really is running for his life.

Idk much about Lord of the Flies, I've never seen the movie or read the book. But it makes sense that it would have a connection to that, I'm sure if anyone researched it'd make tons of sense.
Either way, I loved this song anyway before I knew it had to do with Lord of the Flies.
I just love the lyrics and if you didn't know the story behind it, it seems like it's just about fighting. It's just a great song, it gets me amped.

I think it is about a propagandist, someone new to the business but is attracting a large following and is skilled at manipulating their reporting to ramp up the division.
The reason why the propagandist is going to go far is because they are skilled at manipulation and lying and getting people to do things against the interest of everyone with their lies.
It seems like this person is so skilled that they can even get people to commit violence based on their manipulations.

I think it's about a kid who is being told to take someone out, shoot dead between the eyes. Being told to do that by the devil. But if she doesn't die in the shoot-out, she goes to trial and tries to claim alibis, such as Lord of the Flies.

I think its about a kid, and his older brother who lies about things to like darkness said, get far in the world. And the little kid wants to be like his big brother, and hes told thousands of lies to just get to one person. And the part "if you cant get what you want, well its all because of me", that's probably because the little bro is gettin in the big bros way, that why he never had a chance. But he starts to get better, and someday hell take big bros place, as in "and now you'll lead the way".

It could be about manipulating people and using that to get to the top, someone has to dance to stay out of his/her way because they destroy everyone in their path to get there first, and it came from someone who wasn't suspected for it
I kind of agree with xoxo77, it could be about the devil, or at least someone who is using the same sort of tactics as the devil
then again, it could be a political song, politicians are said to tend to lie their way to the top.
