Robin Trower – Bridge Of Sighs lyrics
The sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Why so unforgiving and why so cold
Been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs
Cold wind blows
The Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Cold wind blows
And Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Why so unforgiving and why so cold
Been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs

The Bridge of Sighs was built in the 16th century, in Venice, Italy. A covered bridge, it straddled between the Doge's Palace Court and the Prison/Execution area. Prisoners, upon their sentencing, were immediately transported across the bridge, and either locked up, or summarily executed. At the end of Trower's title track, "Bridge of Sighs", Reg Isadore, the drummer, snaps the snare drum once, hard, followed by a silence filled only with whispering winds. The sound of the gallows trap door falling down, the end of life, and the sigh the earth emits as it witnesses one more life that has crossed the bridge. To the other side.

The venetian "bridge of sighs" marked your last look at the outside world and freedom before being jailed/executed in the tower prison one would "sigh" walking across this bridge and truly comprehending this reality. For me, this song represents the deepest love affair of my life, and my sorrow for losing it. Many years later, I have cleaned up and have a good life. But my love for this man, so long gone, will not leave me--haunts me still.

But I digress. The song is about a lover who finds himself in a slow, protracted ending of his relationship--a dirge-like walk across the bridge of sighs--to it's death. He's being frozen out; the gods are against him, the ocean tides, themselves, have ceased. He gazes from side to side at what he once had, as he makes his seemingly endless "crossing". All is lost, but the painful ending goes on and on.

As my fingers ever so carefully embrace the keyboard, as to write my heart felt meaning. A being encapsulated in darkness, having no form, void of any other understanding, than he is alone, sees black, hears nothing, time is nothing, but he wants something, everlonging for just something. He saw a something, he was drawn to it, how he couldn't reason, but drawn, as it began to get whiter and a hole which the light came from, he didn't have a clue, and then appeared a shape and then as it came forth more until it was a baby. This creature didn't know what this baby was, but it was there, out of darkness it came through something, and he had awaited for countless eons of time and he did everything he knew how to take care of this baby. Then one day when the time was to be, he the man understood who was caring for who, and did he rebel, no he said it is good enough to know you loved me enough to wait until now to show me your plan. Amen.

As I sit on my back porch listening to the wind whistling through the cracks
The spring has sprung yet I’m still wearing two pair of pants and a heavy coat
My friend just sent me pictures of him on his boat in Florida 85 degrees. And I’m here freezing
I wonder why my life sucks. And winter never seems to end for me
I think of robin trowers and the bridge of sighs seems fitting

I take this song to mean The lies The govt n elites push on us even tho it's obvious that they lie. telling us The sun don't shine on us when clearly it does. They put themselves on pedestals to pass judgement on us as if they are gods. Belittling our worth as if we're not worth being cleansed. ETC
