I think this song means that his pain started young and that his mom wound up re marring and he couldn't bare to have his step father take the place of his father so he walked away from his family and tried to make his life work but he is so scared to be alone and he doesn't want to be hurt either. He really is terrified to have a girlfriend because of the pain it might bring. I will tel you this tho no matter what you've been thru you need to find someone to love and even if some of the relationships you've had in the past have ended badly give people another chance and never lose hope that the right person will come along and when that happens you'll be so happy that you did give people a chance that you won't even; well I won't say you won't remember the pain but you'll feel re leaved and bee overly happy your life will feel complete.

what he meant when said what he said in the chorus is that he felt like nobody was there because he father ( the one he looked up to ) went to jail and left him alone and he's been let down so much he just can't let his heart get broken again by a girl he loves.

I think that this song means that he has been Through a lot of really tough times in his life and that he does not want the same thing that happened to his family to happen to him even though he gave up his family and tryed to make his own but it did not turn out well. I know how he feels because I got abandoned by my own family when I was just 5 years old and I have never meet them and I don’t know there names and they never tryed to get me back and sometimes I do wonder if my family really does love me or they just have me and my siblings just for fun and sometimes I think that I’m a really big mistake and that nobody wants to help me or be there with me durning my tough times. No matter what your problems you have with your family don’t let that stop you from what you want to cause eon day we’re all going to wake up and see that once we leave our parents t life is going to be a living hell. So no matter what never turn your back on family and always think positively and one day you will go back through all your memories and realize that that was all because you had support by your family.❤️
